Abstract

A computerized version of an approximate second-order, elastic-plastic analysis of multi-storey sway frames is presented. The computer program which applies the method to steel frames on a storey-by-storey basis is described. The program is used to demonstrate by way of an example the applicability of the method for the analysis and design of large, multi-storey frames. It is argued that the technique can greatly reduce analysis time as well as simplify the optimization of members in the design of such frames.
