Abstract

A sensitive microcomputer-based shell activity monitor is described. The components of the system consist of a Zenith-100 microcomputer, a 12-volt lantern battery, a voltage control box, a linear variable displacement transducer (LVDT), an analog-to-digital convertor, and appropriate software. The background variability of the system was small (±0.08 mm) compared to the maximum shell gape measured (7.57 mm).
