Abstract
1. 1. A continuous flow microcalorimeter system for measuring steady-state rates of oxygen uptake and heat production and metabolite exchange in small aquatic animals and cell preparations is described. 2. 2. The system shows long-term stability, high sensitivity and short equilibration and response times. 3. 3. Typical measurements on the freshwater oligochaete, Tubifex sp., at varying oxygen saturation levels are presented.
