Abstract

A new type of Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) employing fish bladder as proton exchange membrane has been reported. Yeasts were impregnated on to nano gold supported carbon felt and used as anode of a lab model cell with dilute aqueous solution of starch in buffer solutions (pH 7.2) as fuel. The Cell generates an open circuit potential of 0.185 V vs. SCE at 298 K. Experimental data shows feasibility of power generation using immobilized yeast on to gold nano surface and using a natural proton exchange membrane like fish bladder.
