Abstract

The first use of micellar per aqueous liquid chromatographic method to determine chlorpheniramine, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, caffeine, paracetamol, dextromethorphan and diphenhydramine in cold compound preparations within 30 min. The established method used an ATEO-CN column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) as stationary phase. The mobile phase consisted of aqueous solution (0.003 mol/L Brij-35 and 0.02 mol/L potassium dihydrogen phosphate) – acetonitrile(96:4, v/v) at pH 3.0. The possible separation mechanism of chromatographic system was also discussed. The method was successfully validated including linearity (r2 > 0.9984) and range (1.30–2.2 × 10−3 mg/L), limit of quantitation (0.73–2.60 μg/mL), limit of detection (0.14–0.92 μg/mL), accuracy (86.1–111.2%), intra and inter precision (RSD <7.1%, and <4.2%). The established method can be used for quality control and routine monitoring of common cold preparations.
