Abstract

The complex decision process of data based software selection in a health care system is structured by breaking it down into a number of steps comprising 1 analysis or the user requirements, 2 matching user requirements to data base functions and applying weights, 3 identification of candidate data base software systems and evaluating them against needs, and 4 calculating figures of merit and benchmarking best candidates. The different steps are discussed respecting the peculiarities of health care systems as to this problem area, and features of available database software systems.
