Abstract

A method was developed to estimate the frequency of vortex shedding in turbulent flow. In this method, a bivariate correlation was improved and introduced to the continuous temporal flow structures to estimate the correlation of each pair of the vortex structures. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) was employed to perform a power spectra analysis of these correlation coefficients to obtain the frequency of the vortex shedding from the dominate power peak. The method was applied to vortex shedding from a circle cylinder and to the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experimental data from two dimensional building in wind tunnel. The results show that the frequency of vortex shedding was successfully extracted.
