Abstract

Distinguishing the inside (ID) and outside (OD) defect is an essential problem for pipeline defect detection in engineering. However, there is no effective way to make it under the condition of saturation magnetization. In this paper, a new method is proposed to distinguish the ID and OD defects under saturation magnetization, which based on the small changes of impedance caused by the flaw eddy current. Compared with the traditional phase shift method, this method shows a better performance on the ID and OD distinguishing. The process of the proposed method is more convenient, practical and reliable.
