Abstract

Describes the principle and the main measurement errors of a loss angle meter based on digital pulse time width measurement. The concept of measuring the loss angle by using a time measurement technique has many advantages. Particularly, it eliminates material capacity standards and requires a frequency standard only. The main limitations on the accuracy are due to analogue signal processing. The achieved accuracy of the instrument is comparable with that of automatic transformer bridges, but the resolution of measurement is much better, and the measuring voltage is smaller than that of automatic bridges operating in the same frequency region.
