Abstract

A method was developed to determine the fibre shedding ability of various fabrics. Experimental conditions were reproducible and more closely reflected real life contact than the use of adhesive tape. The use of a large surface area allowed for inconsistencies in shedding, and the effect of the recipient material could be considered. The results from using tape to estimate shedding potential should be interpreted with caution, since on approximately two-thirds of the occasions used in this study it gave an over-estimate.
