Abstract

The system configuration description (SCD) profile depicts the key information, i.e., the virtual circuit of the secondary system in the smart substation. Accurate description of the secondary virtual circuit is of the upmost importance for the safe and reliable operation of the secondary system in the substation. However, at present, the validation work is highly depended on manual inspection according to human professional knowledge and experience, which easily results in low accuracy and poor efficiency. To address the aforementioned issue, this paper proposes a method to automatically check the validity of the secondary virtual circuit in the SCD profile for a smart substation based on region division, data flow direction and port matching. The proposed method analyze the configuration of the secondary virtual circuit in the SCD profile, including 1) the attributes of smart devices, e.g., protection, measurement, control devices, etc., and 2) the associated coupling relationship among these secondary devices. Moreover, a software for the proposed method has been developed and the engineering tests have been carried out. The test results demonstrate that the proposed validation method performs well with high reliability to automatically accomplish the verifying task for the secondary virtual circuit in the SCD file.
