Abstract

The concept of vulnerability of a network, meaning susceptibility to attack, is very useful for the design and analysis of communication networks and computer networks. The vulnerability evaluation of a directed-flow network (DFN) is discussed. Two new concepts, modified edge failure probability and modified edge capacity, are presented and a vertex-resolution method is given. These can be used to change a DFN with both edge and vertex failures into a DFN with edge capacity. Using indices for evaluating a DFN with edge capacity, it is possible to evaluate the vulnerability of a DFN with both edge and vertex failures. >
