Abstract

Electric Field Assisted Capillarity (EFAC) is a novel manufacturing technique that allows for the one-step fabrication of enclosed microstructures, such as microchannels and microcapsules. After a brief review of current micro-encapsulation techniques, this paper presents a list of potential applications for this technology; what is currently known about its mechanisms and avenues for further research Keywords: Microcapsules, Microstructures, Microfluidics, Electric Field Assisted Capillarity (EFAC), Encapsulating Dielectric Fluid, Lithographically Induced Self-Construction (LISC), Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), UV-LIGA process, COMSOL, Inhomogeneities
