Abstract
A crossing procedure, analogous to the triple test cross of Kearsey and Jinks (1968), is described for detecting epistasis in a series of single chromosome substitution lines of hexaploid wheat. By applying scaling tests to the generation means produced, it is possible to identify the interacting chromosomes and also residual “background ” interactions. The analysis of second degree statistics can, under certain circumstances, allow the types of interaction present to be identified. The method is illustrated using the complete set of 21 single chromosome substitution lines of the wheat variety Cappelle-Desprez into the variety Chinese Spring.
