Abstract

SUMMARY The cerambycid Hylotrupes bajulus L., has recently been found active in a timber-framed house at Collaroy Plateau, 10 miles north of Sydney. A grave view was taken of its occurrence in Australia, and the Commonwealth Department of Health ordered the fumigation of the house. Methyl bromide was used at a dosage rate of 4 lb. per 1000 cu. ft. and all test insects (Lyctus brunneus Steph. and Hylotrupes bajulus LJ which had been placed in the home prior to fumigation were killed after an exposure period of 24 hr.
