Abstract

A method is presented that will help in selecting the most appropriate detector aperture size for use in SRIXE (synchrotron radiation induced X-ray emission) measurements. The criterion for selection involves maximizing the fluorescence yield while minimizing background from scattered radiation. The method uses previously published expansions of the scattering cross sections, integrated over solid angle (into 90°), and solving for the value of the aperture aspect ratio where the crossover occurs between terms of the cross section that are proportional to solid angle and terms that change faster than the solid angle.
