Abstract

A method useful for estimation of the probabilities of future large earthquakes is described and is illustrated numerically. This method overcomes some of the limitations of other statistical methods often used for the prediction of large earthquakes. The advantages over the procedures based on the Gumbles classical methods are also pointed out.
