Abstract

A method is described for the simultaneous determination of each of the short-lived daughters of random-222. The method entails sampling the atmosphere of interest through a filter and carrying out α-spectrometry on the activity collected on the filter. The spectrometry measurements must be made both during and after sampling. From a knowledge of the RaA and RaC disintegrations occurring on the filter it is possible to calculate the atmospheric ceoncetrations of RaA, RaB and RaC. The determinations made by the method indicate that its accuracy is sufficient to obtain meaningful results with the smallest daughter product concentrations usually found in the atmosphere.
