Abstract

An improved method of preparing two-dimensional surface spreads of plant synaptonemal complexes (SCs) associated with fluorencentin situhybridization is described. This technique produces clear preparations of SCs and, in addition, consistently reveals the organization and location of different repetitive DNA sequences in plant meiotic prophase chromosomes.
