Abstract

A technique was developed to measure the three-dimensional soil failure front owing to a tillage tool under dynamic conditions. The procedure involves scanning the simple soil-failure sensors embedded in the soil-tool front by a microprocessor system. The relative movement of failed soil with respect to the tool is sensed at millisecond timings to compute the failure front accurately. An experiment with a tillage tool gave sufficient data to analyse the influence of the tool and operational parameters on its failure front.
