Abstract

We propose a memory recall model based on the stochastic resonance using a hippocampal network model. The spatial pattern of CA1 pyramidal cell firing caused by stochastic resonance coincides with the memory pattern embedded in augmented Schaffer collateral synapses. Although the CA3 network causes spontaneous activity, radial propagation of neuronal activity is produced in CA3 by theta burst stimulation as a memory trace. We suggest that CA1 pyramidal cells may code temporal order of information taking advantage of the radial propagation in CA3.
