Abstract

A rapid, mechanical switch for alternately applying current and measuring potentials in biological systems is described. The switch operates at 15 c.p.s., allowing d.c. instruments to be used for current and potential measurements. The switching method described allows changes in bioelectric potentials to be followed which would otherwise be masked by the large IR drop due to the applied current.
