Abstract

The magnetic moment of the Σ+-hyperon has been measured to be (3.5±1.2) nuclear magnetons by observing the precession of the polarization vector in a pulsed magnetic field. The polarized hyperons were produced in a liquid-hydrogen target by a beam of 1.17 Ge V/c π+-meson and their decay was detected in pellicles of nuclear emulsion. The final direction of the polarization was determined from the angular distribution of the decay Σ+→pπ0.
