Abstract

Content caching at base stations is a promising approach to alleviate the transmission pressure of the wireless network. In this paper, we propose a heterogeneous network caching strategy, which base stations cache segments of files and takes advantage of the Maximum-distance separable (MDS) encoding. We formulate the caching problem as an optimization problem and the average energy consumption is adopted as the optimization objective. For binary constraints and inequalities constraints, the optimization problem is NP-hard, thus a global optimal solution is difficult to obtain. In this paper, a heuristic algorithm, Simulated Anneal Algorithm, is applied to obtain the local optimal solution. The simulation results show the performance improvement of the proposed caching strategy over the conventional caching strategies.
