Abstract

AbstractThe radiative heat transfer in a cylindrical furnace was investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The flow pattern within the combustion chamber was measured and found to differ from that of an identical cold model for which extensive theoretical and experimental work had been previously carried out.The Monte Carlo Method was used to solve for the radiative transfer part of the non‐linear integro‐differential equations describing the combustion and heat transfer in a cylindrical furnace. The radiative heat flux distribution obtained from the simulation agreed well with data obtained from a cylindrical test furnace.
