Abstract

This chapter discusses the mathematical model of a spray-dryer flue gas desulfurization system. A pilot plant installed at the Los Barrios Power Plant carried out the study on the desulfurization of flue gas by means of a spray dryer under different operating conditions. A spray-dryer simulation model based on a theoretical approximation to the behavior of desulfurization units is developed as a tool for evaluating the experimental results and for reaching reliable conclusions. This mathematical model is translated into a computer code, creating a computer simulation tool that helps to investigate some spray-dryer design parameters and their operational conditions.
