Abstract

Summary We discuss here the design of functional nanoparticles and their study at the single entity level using nanoparticle impact electroanalysis (NIA). In particular, developments in electrochemical amplification (ECA) and transformative nanoparticle impact analysis (T-NIA) will be described that enable a better characterization of functional nanomaterials and their reactivity in their native (liquid) environment. This review highlights some outstanding works from the past two years that demonstrate the rapid progression in single entity nano-impact electrochemistry and discusses the remaining challenges to be overcome.
