Abstract

A concept of material velocity and path measurements system in continuous rolling mills is described. It takes measurements with a hard metal measuring roll. A roll drive system ensuring more accurate measurements has been elaborated. Theoretical considerations are supported by computer simulation and experimental findings. This robust measuring device for material velocity and path, incorporated in the flying shear control system, has significantly improved the reliability and efficiency of flying shear.
