Abstract
A basic knowledge of dermatology is essential to the proper practice of ophthalmology, but the dermatologic aspects of ophthalmology have received relatively little attention in current ophthalmic literature and textbooks. This is unfortunate because in recent years there have been important advances in dermatology. This manual is highly recommended as an easy-to-read review, worth keeping as a handy reference book. The first 3 chapters, totaling only 75 pages, present the anatomic, physiologic, and chemical factors in diseases of the skin, the basic pathology, and an approach to dermatologic diagnoses. The following chapters concern general types of lesions, such as bacterial infections and drug eruptions. The chapters are relatively short, but there are literature references to aid the clinician in obtaining additional information. The extensive use of effective illustrations has permitted the authors to reduce the amount of written material and has enhanced the value of the book. In ordering this
