Abstract

This paper outlines the framework that has been developed within a state department of mental health to guide the acquisition of data relevant to resource deployment decisions. This Management Information System is being designed to include data concerning populations in need, populations currently receiving services, the nature of existing services, the effectiveness of existing services, and the cost of existing services. Ultimately it is intended that this system will contribute objective information to assist state and local management decision makers in maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of scarce available resources.
