Abstract

1. The dialysis catheter lumen has most likely migrated into the bowel lumen. 2. Perform routine cell count and culture studies on the dialysate. Diagnostic imaging studies, such as a computed tomography (CT), with contrast delivered via the peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter would confirm whether the location of the catheter is appropriate given the completely asymptomatic nature of the presentation and patient’s complex abdominal anatomy. 3. An interdisciplinary decision was made to remove the catheter without exploratory laparotomy while monitoring for signs of peritonitis and providing treatment with intravenous antibiotics and antifungals.
