Abstract

A male Cape Ground Squirrel, Xerus inauris, grooming under the midday sun in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa. Note the long whiskers (vibrissae) and the small ears, anatomical features which are very likely to be put in relation with the squirrel's burrowing habits.
