Abstract
Thermal wave imaging is a novel nondestructive testing technique which is capable of providing three-dimensional information concerning the structure and characteristics of thin, solid samples by the analysis of optically induced heat flow in such materials. Thermal wave imaging instrumentation has previously been bulky, complex and expensive, restricting it to the research laboratory. This paper reports the design, construction and evaluation of a compact, low-cost imaging system which is suitable for routine laboratory use.
