Abstract
A low-cost and fast wavelength measurement method based on Faraday rotation effect is proposed in this study. This laser wavelength measurement method is mainly performed by a specially designed fiber magneto-optic device and a balanced detector. When the linearly polarized lights with different wavelengths pass through the magneto-optic crystal, their polarization planes will be rotated at different angles, then the light wavelength can be measured by detecting the rotated angles. In our experiments, the highest wavelength resolution can reach 2.1pm within a measurement range of ∼7.8nm. This new method has the advantages of low-cost, compact structure and capability of fast measurements.
