Abstract

The excitation mechanism in an analytical oxygen inductively coupled plasma (ICP) is discussed. In addition to the local thermal equilibrium mechanism, charge transfer from oxygen ions to the analytes in the analytical zone also plays an important role in excitation. A comparison of the excitation mechanism between the oxygen ICP and an argon ICP discharge is presented.
