Abstract

A UWB array antenna with electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures is presented in this article. The proposed patch array consists of two identical microstrip-fed monopole antennas. The EBG structures are etched between the radiating elements to enhance the performance of the patch array antenna. The effectiveness of the proposed array with EBG structure has been investigated to that of a conventional UWB array antenna. This approach has been verified by both the simulations and experimental results. The integration of EBG structure has significantly reduced the mutual coupling by more than 15 dB throughout the UWB frequency band. The proposed array is potentially useful for emerging portable UWB devices.
