Abstract

Magnetic amorphous wires (MAW) exhibit remarkable properties and effects when put under the action of various external factors, making them very attractive for construction of a new generation of sensors. In the paper, the functional model of a transducer able to measure low frequency electric currents in a wide range of values is presented. The transducer is composed by a sensitive element (SE) conceived on the basis of Giant Magnetoimpedance Effect (GMI) occurring in nearly-zero magnetostrictive amorphous wires (MAW), and a Signal Conditioning Circuit (SCC) devoted to process the signal delivered by SE and to provide as output a frequency related to the measured electric current. The main characteristics of the transducer, along with some discussions on the device optimization and performances are also presented in the paper.
