Abstract

Increased attention has recently been focused on emission of electro-magnetic radiation of pulse-width modulation (PWM) converters, which are commonly operated at a fixed frequency. This results in a peak in the current spectrum at the switching frequency, which directly affects the emission of radiation and indirectly affects the mechanical vibration and acoustic noise. We discuss a novel PWM method based on logistic chaotic map (LCB-PWM), in order to reduce the electro-magnetic interference (EMI) level of converters. Because the peak in the current spectrum at the switching frequency is widely spread to a large bandwidth, the EMI level is greatly decreased with LCB-PWM method. The simulation results show a reduction of the peak emission around the switching frequency up to 29 dB with this approach, without affecting driving performance.
