Abstract

Internet of things has proved to be the enabler of many technologies such as smart grids, smart environment, smart transportation and smart cities. This paper proposes a system that can be used to monitor current, voltages and other parameters of UPS systems installed in home and office. The proposed system uses internet of things technologies like IBM cloud, node-RED and MQTT to acquire transmit and display different parameters. A microcontroller is used to acquire data from sensors and then data is sent to the WiFi Module. Data is then sent to a online MQTT broker. An online application running on IBM cloud platform acquires the data from MQTT broker and displays the data using a graphical user interface therefore providing real time information on sensor data. This scheme uses two way communication between different application which will allow the user to take actions by providing control over I/O pins of microcontroller. Using IBM cloud service allows this application to be accessed online.
