Abstract
Laser diodearray and photo diode array combined through coarse wavelength division multiplexed (CWDM) are widely used in short-reach optical communication within massive web-scale data center. Those components can be used in solid-state photonics-based Lidar built upon silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide as well, achieving significant cost saving. Beam steering can be naturally achieved through diffraction in output grating couplers. However, current design is hampered by low angular resolution. We demonstrate a novel design by combining outputs of two grating couplers with orthogonal polarizations in an interleaving manner. This scheme effectively doubles the angular resolution of on-chip Lidar.
