Abstract

Block diagonalization (BD) is a downlink precoding technique that cancels inter-user interference in downlink multiuser MIMO systems. But the number of simultaneously supportable receive antennas is limited by the number of base station transmit antennas for multiuser MIMO systems with BD. When a large number of receive antennas exist, the base station can select a subset of receive antennas for each user to maximize the system throughput. The exhaustive search for the optimal selection, however, is computationally prohibitive. In this paper, we propose a low complexity suboptimal antenna selection algorithm which is based on the channel Frobenius norm(F-norm) for multiuser MIMO systems with BD. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can be close to the sum capacity of the optimal algorithm.
