Abstract

The first ballistic supermirror neutron guide was installed at the European neutron source of the Institut Laue–Langevin in Grenoble. This guide delivers a cold neutron capture flux of φ c=1.6×10 10 cm −2 s −1 over a cross-section of 6×20 cm 2 at a distance of 78 m to the source. Its main use will be in the field of neutron-particle physics.
