Abstract

Type strains of 407 species of bacteria are listed, 59 neotype strains are proposed for approval, and 137 reference (working) strains are proposed. In each case a history of the strain is given; the name of the culture was which the original culture was deposited, together with the catalogue number assigned by the original depository and in general the catalogue number of the strain assigned by one or more culture collections are also given. Upon publication, designations of type strains are official unless challenged. Proposals of neotype strains require approval by the Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Bacteriological Nomenclature. The names of the species designated as types and those proposed as neotypes and reference strains are listed below:
