Abstract

Abstract This paper describes a linearized procedure for voltage control that can be used to solve the near-optimal reactive power dispatch problem. The approach uses sparse vector methods and linear programming to yield a fast and efficient solution which is suitable for on-line control applications. The chosen objective function maximizes constrained system voltages which, in turn, minimize ohmic losses. An actual test system is used to demonstrate the accuracy of the method.
