Abstract

Smart factories may use a wide range of existing technologies and are designed or retrofitted in a way that allows for the integration of future technological developments. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), factory management systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and augmented reality are amongst some of the new technologies that may be used in a smart factory to control and optimize its performance. Connecting smart technology can share information that can be used to automate various processes. However, from a security perspective, security protection is one of the top priorities and the most challenging features in this field. In this paper, we designed an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) security gateway for the smart factory management system. The goal of this IIoT security gateway is to provide secure privacy and authentication information. It's composed of three layers namely collection, encryption, and transmission. The function of the IIoT security gateway is to collect data from industrial equipment such as PLC, CNC as well as surrounding environmental information. Afterward, it will be able to provide efficient data encryption and secured data transmission mechanisms that help to transmit valuable data to the smart factory cloud. This gateway also includes a server authentication mechanism and supports the IIoT devices inspection function. Our evaluation results show that even utilizing low power consumption devices like Raspberry Pi still can achieve encrypt and decrypt 100∼10KB under 93 milliseconds.
