Abstract

Stem nodules were observed on plants of Vicia faba L. cv. Throws MS grown in a variety of environmental conditions. Observations by light and scanning electron microscopy indicated that these organs were morphologically similar to root nodules on the same plants. Nodules arose following infection of stem hairs and subsequent growth of infection threads into the stem cortex. They developed to a mature, nitrogen-fixing state.
