Abstract
Such tragic deaths as those of the Kent State students, who represented the majority anti-war sentiment of men and women in American colleges, can only be prevented in the future by our total military disengagement. We would impress upon you the present unprecedented crisis on the nation's campuses which threatens life and our educational system. We are dismayed by the rising tide of anti-intellecualism in this country, which has been encouraged by inflammatory and divisive statements by leading members of the Administration. The concerns of our organization, not only with art but with the humanity that makes and profits from art, require that we strongly protest against the war's escalation and prolongation in the name of national self-interest.
