Abstract

This paper presents some endeavours on the part of Slovene criminology towards a research-based crime prevention. The field of crime prevention is not as developed as in Western countries, but several initiatives and research projects show a strong willingness to incorporate contemporary crime prevention ideology and specific socio-economic, cultural, legal and other characteristics of Slovene society into a new, convenient model of crime prevention. Slovenian criminologists have studied the international literature on crime prevention and conducted several research projects on crime prevention, community policing and other forms of crime control. The College of Police and Security Studies (CPSS), affiliated to the University of Ljubljana, and the Institute of Criminology in Ljubljana have done the most amount of work in this field.
