Abstract
The Fundamentals of Engineering Design course is one of the basic engineering courses in the Industrial Engineering Department of Institut Teknologi Nasional Bandung. Orthogonal projection, which is one of the lessons on the course, is considered the most difficult lesson, because of its reliance on high visual understanding. Augmented reality (AR) technology can become an alternative to increase student's learning performance. This research discusses the development of an AR-based learning aid that will increase learning performance on the Fundamentals of Engineering Design course. The learning aid that was developed uses marker-based AR and was built for Android devices. After development, the learning aid was tested on the functionality and effectiveness. The effectiveness portion of the test was divided into two parts: students’ performance improvement using the paired t-test, and usability questionnaire. Results show that the AR program had performed well functionally, while the results from the effectiveness test show that the AR program is able to increase scores in answering the engineering design questions while it also significantly reduces the time needed to answer the questions. Furthermore, the usability questionnaire results show that the AR program had been able to achieve the desired usability criteria of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction.
