Abstract

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a resource-constrained network. The energy consumption of the nodes directly affects the network life cycle. Therefore, balancing the energy consumption in the network and extending the life cycle of the network are important goals in designing WSN routing protocol. LEACH protocol is a classic hierarchical routing protocol in WSN. The energy consumption is evenly distributed to each node through the rotation of the cluster head. However, the random selection of cluster heads does not consider the current energy and location of nodes, so the distribution of cluster heads is unreasonable. Furthermore, when the cluster head is far away from the sink node, the single-hop transmission method will quickly consume the energy of the cluster head nodes. This paper presents a novel routing protocol LEACH-EPM that optimizes the selection of cluster head nodes and by using dijkstra algorithm establishes a routing mechanism between cluster heds nodes.
